What is the recruitment process for Trainee Drivers?
1- Is there any reason why I wouldn't be considered for a trainee driver role?
The Train Driver role is a safety critical role therefore we have to follow strict guidelines to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff members.
- You will need to have a good standard of health to become a trainee driver
- Age - you need to be over 20 ½ years at the time of your application
- Failed process - As per the railways standards, if you have failed twice at any stage of the recruitment process, with any rail company, you are not allowed to sit the assessments again.
2- If I am shortlisted, what does the recruitment process entail?
- Assessment Part 1: This includes a concentration test, the Group Bourdon, and a mechanical test.
- Assessment Part 2: This includes a DTG (reaction test), TRP (trainability test) and Criterion Based Interview
- Manager interview - The final stage will be an interview with a Traincrew Manager/Driver Manager and Human Resources Representative
- Medical and Drugs & Alcohol screening
3- Do you provide training?
We provide full training which lasts about 7-8 months.
You will spend part of the training in our Learning Centre, at Swiss Cottage and part of it driving with an instructor
How do I apply for a job?
If it's the first time you are applying for a role with us, you need to create your profile.
Go to Careers - Vacancies then click on the "Most recent jobs posted", and click on the one you are interested in. At the bottom of the page, click on "Apply for this job". Complete the application form and upload your CV.
If you are already registered, you need to go to the bottom of the Vacancies page, enter your email and password. Click on "Careers home", choose the job you’re interested in, then click on "Submit application"
.Do I need to attach my CV as well as answering the questions?
Yes, it is recommended to attach your CV as well so we have all the necessary information to make a decision.
Do I need to create a profile for each application?
No, you only need to create your profile once. To apply for different roles you just need to go back into it. (see "How to apply for a job" question).
At what time does a vacancy close?
All the vacancies have a closing date at the bottom of the advertisement and will close at 5pm on the day.
If I don’t see a job I’m interested in, can I fill in an application form?
Yes, you can. Go to Careers - Vacancies then go to the "New Members" section at the bottom of the page, and click on "build your profile". Follow the instructions and upload your CV.
The system will ask you to create an email and a password which you will need to remember in order to be able to go back into your profile.
I’ve applied for a job and I’ve logged back into my profile, but I can’t see the job I applied for. Have I applied for the job?
Sometimes the system doesn’t show that you have applied for a job but from our end we can see that you have. The best thing to do is to email us careers@lorol.co.uk so we can confirm what we have on record.
How can I make sure I am not rejected at the application screening stage?
You need to give us detailed and dated information regarding your work history. You also need to fit the criterion stated on the advertisement.
